Bodhgaya, Bihar: In a serene and spiritually significant moment, the Governor of Goa, Mr. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Reetha Sreedharan, embarked on a soul-stirring visit to the Mahabodhi Temple. This revered pilgrimage site, nestled in the heart of Bodhgaya, holds immense importance for Buddhists worldwide.
Warm Reception and Blessings
Upon their arrival, the distinguished guests were greeted by Dr. SM Tiyagrajan, IAS, the District Magistrate of Gaya and Chairman of the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC). Dr. Tiyagrajan, along with Dr. Mahashweta Maharathi, Secretary of the BTMC, and Mr. Kiran Lama, offered flower bouquets and the traditional Khaada as a mark of respect.
Inside the hallowed precincts of the temple, the Chief Monk, Bhikkhu Chalinda, along with fellow monks Bhikkhu Dinanand and Bhikkhu Manoj, received His Excellency and the First Lady. Their voices resonated with ancient sutras, invoking blessings upon the honored guests.
Circumambulating the Sacred Bodhi Tree
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Dr. Mahashweta Maharathi guided the Governor and the First Lady on a circumambulation around the Sacred Bodhi Tree. With each step, she shared insights into the temple’s historical significance, its architectural marvels, and the spiritual energy that permeates the air.
Tokens of Appreciation
In a gesture of appreciation, the District Magistrate of Gaya, the Secretary, and a member of the BTMC presented mementos to His Excellency and the First Lady. Among these treasures was a meticulously crafted Buddha Statue, symbolizing enlightenment and compassion. Additionally, publications from the BTMC were gifted, providing a deeper understanding of the temple’s legacy.

The Mahabodhi Temple transcends geographical boundaries. It stands as a testament to the enlightenment attained by Lord Buddha under the Bodhi Tree. Pilgrims from across the globe seek solace here, their footsteps echoing the ancient pilgrims who once trod these sacred grounds.
